Based at RSPCA Animal Centre, Halifax

Full Time Animal Care Assistant

37.5hrs per week including alternate weekends

Meets minimum wage requirements

With a relevant NVQ level 2 / Diploma in animal Care, applicants should have practical experience in animal handling and training.

You will need to possess excellent organisation skills and have previous experience of working in a kennel environment. Candidates will also have the ability to communicate fluently and effectively with others at all levels both verbally and in writing.

You will be highly motivated and able to work under pressure on your own initiative whilst retaining a good sense of humour. You will be empathetic towards others in, sometimes, difficult circumstances.

A driving licence is desirable.

  • Good general health



  • Good general standard of education

NVQ Level 2 or National Diploma or equivalent in Animal Care




  • Experience of working in a kennels or cattery environment


·        Experience of working in an RSPCA or similar environment






  • Excellent animal handling skills
  • Good knowledge of animal care and husbandry
  • Good understanding of health & safety requirements



  • Good verbal and written communication
  • Good IT skills




  • Willingness to learn and acquire new skills
  • Personable and friendly
  • Able to communicate with a wide variety of individuals
  • Good sense of humour, honest, trustworthy and reliable
  • Good time keeping, smart and tidy appearance

  • Patient and understanding




  • Good understanding of animal welfare and the work of the RSPCA


·        Holder of full driving license
