Dog Daze launches in pubs – here’s how we made it!

Last month, our incredible friends at Phoenix Brewery invited us to their stunning site in Heywood, to craft Dog Daze, our first ever charity collaboration beer, with the help of Amber and Liam from The County Beerhouse. A hazy pale at 4.2%, Dog Daze is also Phoenix’s first vegan brew and even better – 15p from every pint will be donated to us at the RSPCA Halifax, Huddersfield and Bradford Branch!

It was an honour to be part of the brewing process and the passion and knowledge from Andy and everyone else at Phoenix can be tasted in every delicious sip. The process was aided with the support of suppliers Charles Faram, and grain from Crisp Maltings, who we can’t thank enough for their generosity.

We (tried!) to help with every step for the first day of brewing – adding the malt grains to the vat and mixing with hot water to create a mash – this gave us a liquid filled with the sugars which ferment to create the alcohol content and add flavour.

Of course the spent grain needed cleaning up – this was bagged up to be repurposed as animal feed, so as to create as little waste as possible during the process.

Next we boiled the liquid (wort) and added hops for flavour.

After cooling, we added yeast to kick start the fermentation, leaving the lovely concoction safely to ferment and develop the excellent flavours you can taste today!

We were so excited to share the news about the launch of Dog Daze last month, and we are even more excited to share that Dog Daze is available to drink in pubs NOW!
