How We’re Keeping our Really Big ReFURb Eco-Friendly

How we’re keeping our Really Big ReFURb eco-friendly 💚
Our Really Big ReFURb isn’t just about creating better rescue spaces for animals… it’s also about doing it in the most sustainable way possible. One of the biggest ways we’re reducing waste is through upcycling, and here are three key ways we’re making it happen:
1️⃣ Giving old materials a brand-new purpose
We’ve re-used several uPVC sections and windows from the original cat isolation and smalls block to build our temporary internal hoardings. These hoardings help keep everyone safe, improve site security, and reduce noise – all without sending perfectly usable materials to landfill ♻️
2️⃣ Re-using cat isolation pens
All of the original cat isolation pens have been carefully modified and re-used in our temporary first-floor cat isolation ward. Even better, many of these pens are expected to be used again in phase two of the project, alongside other pens from the existing cat wards – proving that good design can go a long way 🐈‍⬛
3️⃣ Relocating and re-using rabbit & guinea pig pens
Our rabbit pens have also been given a new lease of life. After being modified, they’ve been relocated to the temporary first-floor rabbit and guinea pig ward, ensuring our smaller residents stay comfortable while keeping waste to a minimum🐰
By re-using what we already have, we’re reducing our environmental impact, saving vital charity resources, and making the Really Big ReFURb kinder to the planet…. just as it is to the animals who call our centre home💙
